Aune, Orson, and I enjoyed a week of vacation in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee this past week. We had a very restful vacation and are so thankful for the church family allowing us to take a week to get away and allow our minds, bodies, and souls to rest. We rented a log cabin at the foothill of the Smokies and were able to wake up each morning to an incredible view of the mountains looming through our windows. I was constantly reminded this week, as I looked out on the beautiful view, of what David wrote in Psalm 19:1-4:
"The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world."
God's beautiful creation is all around us! And each day is a new opportunity for us to see how God has revealed Himself in creation. We see His love, care, thoughtfulness, design, and grace even as we look at the mountains, the setting sun, or at the vastness of the stars. Creation boasts the fact that God is REAL! Each day the heavens declare God's glory and remind us that we serve and awesome, infinite, creator God! I am so thankful for that reminder of this past week as we were able to enjoy many aspects of God's creation.
God's creation however, is only a general revelation of who He is. We are held accountable because we see His creation and we KNOW that there must be a God. That revelation of God through His creation is enough to condemn us to Hell, but it is not enough to save us from it (Romans 1:18-32). We also need to understand God's special revelation, and that is revealed in the person and work of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is fully God and fully man, came to earth born of a virgin, taught of redemption, salvation, and the forgiveness of sins through belief in Him, died on the cross for those sins, rose again conquering the grave, ascended to the right hand of the Father where He awaits to take back the title deed to the Earth, and will then soon return to establish His kingdom which will have no end! May God's creation continue to draw our thoughts to His existence and character, and may His word continue to draw us to Himself through the gospel of His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ!
-In Christ,
Pastor Johnson
